My name is Bethany Gurrola and I am the owner of Henna by B.
I grew up on a couple acres of land in Sonoma, California. I was constantly barefoot outside, had a wild imagination and was always crafting or making something.
It just so happened that my family shared our land with a small Ashram where people from all over would come to practice yoga and hindu ceremonies to finding spiritual guidence.
Indian culture was a staple in my life from a very young age. From the clothing and colors to the chants and different ceremonies, I fell in love with everything about it.
An art that is rooted in Indian culture is henna, and as I grew older I began to decorate my friends and family with premade henna cones found at himalayan stores and fairs. It wasn't until I found myself working at a local shop, that happened to sell henna, that I decided to really focus on getting better at this ancient art.
One day I decided to get inspiration from and practice some designs that had a flow to them and were not just blobs, dots and swirls; they didn't come out that bad. I thought it would be a good idea to keep working at it. At first I was pretty limited in my henna drawing abilities, but with passionate determination, I practiced until there was no more skin to practice on anymore. Constantly working on my craft I grew stronger in my skill and began to slowly book appointments with people other than friends and family. Henna by B was slowly turning into a small business all on its own.
Now it is 6 years later and I make all of my own henna, roll my own cones and draw my own designs and am able to do events and take appointments all over Sonoma County, I am also a local birth doula and enjoy singing and being outside. I could not be more thankful for how far I've come, the amazing people I've met and the opportunities and support that continue to pour in.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
